Special Issue Scope of Work

Journal of Solar Energy and Sustainable Development (JSESD) welcomes publication of Conferences’ Special Issues (CSIs) as well as regular Special Issues (SIs) on specific topics, with the aim of raising awareness and discussing latest topics on research and development in the field of renewable energy. Proposals for the CSIs are submitted from organizing bodies of these conferences and proposed regular Special Issues (SIs) on specific topics are submitted from experts and well-known academic staff in the relevant fields to edit a special issue for the journal.

Accepted proposals (invited or proposed) of CSIs and SIs go into similarity check and rigorous peer review process similar to regular journal issues. All manuscript of the special issue should meet the same quality standards of the JSESD regular issues.

All manuscripts of the special issues (SI) will be checked by the Editor-in-Chief and the journal Editorial Board (EB) before they are assigned to the Lead Guest Editor (LGE). The LGE and the Guest Editors (GEs) will act as Academic Editors in the journal to handle the manuscripts of the SI. If the manuscript is submitted or invited by the GE, it will be assigned to an external expert in the field to handle it as an Academic Editor or by one of the journal EB members in order to avoid conflict of interest.  

The scope of work to publish a SI is as follows:

  1. LGE/GEs is expected to adhere to JSESD’s Guide for authors, reviewing process, all guidelines and ethical issues.
  2. The GEs of the proposed Special Issue (SI) are expected to work under the supervision of the JSESD Editor -in-Chief and the journal Editorial team.
  3. The Special Issue Call for papers must be open to everyone and Guest Editors should circulate the Call for papers within their personal networks, social media groups, and at any relevant conferences or workshops they may attend.
  4. GEs should suggest potential authors and invite them for contributing relevant articles for the proposed special issue.
  5. GEs should carry out all communications with potential authors and reviewers concerning author guidelines for manuscript preparation and reviewing
  6. GEs should Prepare a timeline and schedule for the release of special issue articles. This should include a timeline for manuscript preparation, review process, and final submission (as indicated in the (SI information form)).
  7. Special issue (SI) articles can include original unpublished papers as well as limited number of review papers (percentage of review papers could be determined with JSESD EB) related to the SI theme.
  8. The article contents of the SI should comply with the aims and scope of the JSESD and follow the editorial policies including ethics in publishing at JSESD and ensure that conflict of interest is dealt with appropriately.
  9. All submitted manuscript must be screened for possible plagiarism (Similarity index less than 20%).
  10. All articles should adhere to SESD style and formation as in the journal Guide for Authors.
  11. The special issue should contain at least ten accepted articles. If number of accepted articles are less than five, they will be published in a regular issue of the journal.
  12. Authors should submit their manuscript through the journal submission system, use related e-mails at the journal website or LGE e-mail.
  13. All papers for a Special Issue must be approved by the JSESD Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board before final acceptance of the Guest Editors.
  14. If submission of material for the Special Issue exceeds the aforementioned deadline, manuscripts submitted for that Special Issue may be considered as regular manuscripts for inclusion in a standard issue with an acknowledgement of the work of the Guest Editor(s).
  15. Final accepted papers will be sent to JSESD EB to proceed with publishing steps.
  16. Publication of the SI will start after receiving all selected papers and related materials and will be issued about two months after the submission.
  17. Guest Editors will be granted a Certificate of Acknowledgment for editing the SI.
  18. A PDF copy of the SI (free of charge) will be sent to the LGE/ GEs with his/ their profile on the cover page.
